You toss and turn and right when you find the perfect position the alarm sounds. Being the go-getter you are you rise from your fluffy fortress reluctantly. You find yourself yawning and ponder what gives. You might think it’s everything from your mattress to your sleep position. Which are good points but before you give your mattress the boot and sleep at a 90 degree angle give these 6 simple tips a shot.
Create a to do list every night
Let’s face it we all from time to time worry about future tasks that we will have to complete. Instead of worrying about the future create a list of things you need to get done tomorrow and leave it for the morning.
Try lavender on your pillow
When feeling anxious or if you just can’t seem to get tired, try dropping 1-2 drops of lavender essential oil on your pillow. If the smell is to strong for you, stick to one drop and turn your pillow over. Lavender is great for relaxing the mind and body.
A hot shower
After a strenuous day instead of immediately washing yourself allow the water to run on you for a few minutes. Allow the water to ease your muscles and wash the day away. Sometimes all you need is a nice hot shower or soak to ease your mind and encourage better sleep.
Mediate on 3 positive things that happened today
Often we beat out self up about our days. We replay the worst moments of the day in our heads. Sometimes we even forget to acknowledge the positive things that happened. Every time right before bed when you catch yourself doing this, turn every negative thought into a positive one. Challenge yourself to make a habit of listing 3 positive things that happened that day.
Turn off the TV
Wait, why is that man sneaking up behind that elderly woman. What on earth is he doing with that mask on? We’ve all been here you leave the TV on with or without sound. Simultaneously as your just about to drift off some scene you have just got to know all about catches your eye. Attempt sleeping without the TV to get a better sleep. Light from the TV can actually disrupt your natural sleep cycle. Sleeping in the dark aids in helping the hormone melatonin be produced which helps you sleep.
Cup of tea before bed
Drinking tea right before bed is good for easing into a sleepy state of mind. I find that the warmth of the tea can really help aid in putting your mind to rest. Certain teas such as chamomile have calming aromas and attributes that help soothe you into a good night sleep.

I can’t drink herbal tea in evenings. Up in the middle of the night for bathroom! 🙂
